Unions were important factors in the industrial history
of Southeast Chicago. They were very much involved in the movement to
create industrial unions which eventually resulted in the successful
creation of the United Steel Workers of America. One of the most important
events in American labor history, the Memorial Day Massacre, occurred in
this area, at Republic Steel on Memorial Day, May 30, 1937. |
