There were many factories and plants on the Southeast Side other than
steel mills. They were drawn to the area by the same factors that
attracted the steel industry: cheap land, railroads, water, good
transportation and an available labor pool. Some provided services to the
steel mills and provided materials used in the making of steel. Others
used the end products of the steel industry to make other finished
products like ships and cars. |
