Homeowners' Information from The Beman Committee

|
The Pullman Civic
Organization (PCO) was founded on March 10, 1960. The preamble to its bylaws reads:
The
residents of this community, known as Pullman, have banded together and formed this
Organization to promote the general welfare of the Community and to preserve its
historical significance and continuing their efforts to educate and memorialize the
significance of the area.
In support of
this mission, the PCO Beman Committee provides information, educational materials
and other means of support to assist Pullman property owners to comply with historic
preservation guidelines established by the Secretary of the Interior and the Landmarks
Division of the Chicago Department of Planning and Development. The Committee is comprised
of community residents with a diversity of backgrounds, including architecture, the
building trades and historic preservation.
In 2002, the PCO Beman Committee developed
the first-ever Pullman Homeowners Guide, which provides preservation information of
relevance to the Pullman National Historic Landmark District. With funding from the
National Park Services Cost-Share Program, copies of the guide were printed and made
available free of charge to each homeowner living within the community. To make the
information even more readily available, the Guide is now available on-line.
If you have any questions about the Guide
or other preservation issues related to the Pullman NHL, feel free to contact PCO Beman
Committee co-chairs Arthur Pearson at arthurmelville@earthlink.net
or Gordon Hirsig at smthctz@sbcglobal.net.
