South Chicago - Mexican Independence Day Parade

Nina Margarita Vorduzco, parade Queen, 1957. South Chicago's is the oldest Mexican Independence Day Parade in Chicago and is a very popular local event. The parade is heading east on 92nd Street. Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, oldest Mexican parish in Chicago founded in 1923, is visible in the background.

South Chicago - Polish Army Band on Commerical Avenue

Band on 88th and Commercial in May, 1918. Band is across the street from Immaculate Conception Church. Businesses in the background include Polonia Publishing Company and Semrau Furniture.

South Chicago - Vietnam Memorial

Commemoration service for young men killed in action during the Vietnam War from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Memorial is located near the church at the corner of 91st and Brandon. Twelve young men from the parish were killed in the war. Pictured at left is Joe Gutierrez, by flagpole is Ray Castro.
